Te Whetu Rehua

Within a sporting and activity context, Sport New Zealand has developed an engagement framework know as ‘Te Whetu Rehua’. Te Whetu Rehua is utilised as an assessment tool to understand whether engagement is through an “as Māori” way of working and to what level “as Māori” organisations, activities and even individuals are delivering to.

The framework is based on five key values important for Māori cultural and social development. The tool has been developed with Māori community sport and recreation providers, it supports Māori being able to participate as Māori, recognising that a strong and secure cultural identity helps facilitate access to wider society, as well as being vital to wellbeing as indigenous New Zealanders
