Janell is of Te Whakatohea descent and resides in Auckland. Janell graduated from The University of Auckland with a BHSc, and is currently studying Law at UoA. Janell currently works at Hāpai te Hauora as the General Manager for Māori Public Health, working across the areas of nutrition, physical activity, alcohol and other drug harm minimisation and tobacco. Janell has a strong sense of social justice and a passion for improving health outcomes for Māori. She is a strong advocate for the aspirations of whanau, hapu and iwi, recognising the role of public health as a mere facilitator of wellbeing.
