Muscle-strengthening Exercise Epidemiology: a New Frontier in Chronic Disease Prevention

Strength training is as important as cardio for chronic disease prevention. Muscle-strengthening exercise includes the use of weight machines, exercise bands, hand-held weights, or our own body weight (such as push-ups, sit-ups or planking). The authors say compared to aerobic physical activity/exercise, muscle-strengthening exercise has been generally overlooked in public health approaches for chronic disease prevention.
