SCANZ Conference 2020: Beyond COVID-19
Join us in this series of online hui and wānanga focused on how best to tell stories about scientific topics including (but not limited to) COVID-19.
We’ll explore what worked well (or not so well) in Aotearoa’s COVID-19 communications – but we’ll also have plenty of sessions for those who want to hone their science storytelling knowledge and skills without thinking too much about the pandemic!
Highlights include:
- Headline: Siouxsie Wiles and Toby Morris share how they created their highly effective COVID-19 infographics and what they experienced when these images went viral (excuse the pun!) around the world.
- Learning about Māori-led science communication from Peter-Lucas Jones – the creator of Te Pūtahi iwi radio pilot programme, which shares Māori perspectives on science research to make it useful for haukāinga.
- Headline: A behind the scenes ‘tour’ of the Unite Against COVID-19 campaign by social marketing (not social media) expert Linda Major, whose team designed the campaign heralded as a “communications masterclass”.
- A workshop with TEDxWellington licensee and speaker coach DK on how to combine public speaking, storytelling techniques and online mediums as a powerful strategy for effective communication.
