Child Poverty in NZ

In the year ended June 2018, 13 percent of children lived in a household experiencing material hardship.

Material deprivation measures of child poverty use surveys to determine the proportion of children who live in households that cannot afford specific consumption items that most people regard as essential. Examples include not having two pairs of good shoes, putting off a visit to the doctor, or not being able to pay the electricity or gas bills on time.
